I can’t believe it’s already September. 2020 has been a crazy year. Has anyone else felt like it’s been April all summer?
What’s been happening on this blog since my last update (July) :
- Five Fast Resources for Allies
- Ten Black Female Artists and Activists to follow ASAP
- Daily Journaling for Creativity
Because my last post was a promise to try journaling every day for four weeks, my next post will be an overview of how the the journaling went and how (if it all) it impacts my creative energy.
Creative Goals Update
(This section is a self-evaluation of how I’m doing on the goals I outlined in the post “Creative Goals 2020” at the beginning of the year. I’ll go through each category, in the order I listed them in my Goals post.)
- Balance / Separation between my creative self and my “Mom” self
I’m still working on figuring out how to balance my time, but a new achievement is that I don’t feel as guilty anymore in one thing or the other. I used to feel guilty that I wasn’t doing work when I was playing with my son, and then also feel guilty that I wasn’t playing with my son when I was doing creative work.
(specific goal: Write a story of some kind by the end of the year.)
As I mentioned last time, I had several old, unfinished story ideas. Since then, I’ve finally decided on a story and have a bare-bones outline going.
(specific goal: Just do more of it, for fun.)
I’ve done more small painting projects since the last update. 🙂
(specific goals: One lesson from the online drawing course per week, and when that’s finished, one lesson from the anatomy drawing book per week.)
Since the last update, I missed working on the drawing course one week.
- Pixel Art
(specific goals: At least one finished piece every two weeks, with at least one of those per month being a game-art style piece.)
I’d like to be doing more pixel art, but I am sticking to what I set for the goal, at least. I might start looking at the Pixel Dailies tag for inspiration.
- Finding Inspiration
(specific goals: Spend time reading fiction at least three times a week, and start a book blog by the end of the year.)
The reading is going well, and the preparing the other blog is a work in progress, although a little slow because of writer’s block.
Because of social distancing, not much has changed since the last update. We’re still doing academics at home, and having as much fun as we can by ourselves.
Josh is still hard at work developing new code for our game project.
I’ve had some writer’s block lately, but since my last post, I’ve been trying to journal every day to see if it kick starts some creativity and motivation to write better posts.
Thanks for reading, and happy fall!
